11000 Virgins. What a title for an album! But – different from what you might possibly think ☺, it’s all about a “song collection“ from the 12th century - originally composed by the German abbess Hildegard von Bingen. These – monophonic – chorals were now transformed by Black Wedding into a more modern, „up-to-date“, but yet timeless gown. Far away from those beaten musical paths, Louis Zachert (all instruments and arrangements) and Belgian soprano singer Francisca Vanherle now open a new musical universe to the listener: By combining elements from most different musical styles and influences, Black Wedding creates musical canvas which contains both ruminant parts as well as highly danceable tracks. And those will definitely find their way to the dance floor!
In the forefront of the release of 11000 Virgins, “Sed Diabolus” already became a kind of “secret hit” in an underground music club in the German Ruhrgebiet area. And a member of the MySpace web community said about “Rubor Sanguinis”: “Rubor Sanguinis is a bomb!”
However, 11000 Virgins is not an album which primarily aims towards the dance floor, but a kind of atmospherically dense “aural voyage”. Thus, it will also feel very comfortable in the living-room’s CD player. Best being savoured with candle light and a good glass of red wine...
